Ausherman Homes Helps Feed Frederick County

Frederick, MD…One of Frederick County’s leading homebuilders recently made a generous donation to The Frederick Food Bank. Ausherman Homes, a Drees Company, presented the much-needed contribution of $5,000 to Rev. Brian Scott, Executive Director of The Religious Coalition.

With constant concern for the less fortunate in Frederick County, Ausherman Homes consistently demonstrates their concern for the quality of life in Frederick County. Their generosity enables the Religious Coalition to continue to compassionately feed the hungry in the community. “Ausherman Homes is committed to improving the lives of all persons in Frederick County, we will continue to aid the Coalition’s effort to feed those in need, ” said Barry Weller, Vice-President of Sales and Marketing for Ausherman Homes.

“Ausherman Homes has been a blessing, their continued effort to end hunger in Frederick County is the perfect example of a company that understands the importance of giving back to the community. Their on-going support makes a big difference. We will use their gift for our Frederick Food Bank, where an average of 395 families are served monthly; that’s nearly 55% of our clients. Their donation will cover the cost of food for 70% of our clients for a month. We cannot stress enough how appreciative we are for their support of hungry families in Frederick County. We would like to see other Frederick County companies be as generous, ” said Rev. Scott.

The Religious Coalition was founded in 1981 by a core group of individuals who became aware of the growing human needs in Frederick County and of the Biblical mandate to serve others. The Coalition has provided short-term, emergency assistance to thousands of families and individuals. An average of 250 individuals contact the client service office each month with emergency needs. The Coalition coordinates donations of time, money, food and other resources to meet the urgent needs of people in the community.

The Religious Coalition is affiliated with seven food banks that provide over 830 families with two to three bags of groceries each month. The Coalition reports as many as 28% of their clients have missed meals in the last month because they didn’t have enough money to buy groceries. Children make up 38% of their clients, and 67% of their families earn less than $10,000 per year, far less than federal poverty standards.
